Nutrition is a healthy balance necessary for growth. Just the right amounts of nutrients combined in their quantities to build and maintain the bodies cells supply food energy and address the needs of each individual dog. Sounds pretty scientific, well because it is. The Great Dane needs a precisely formulated diet of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and trace elements combined in exact quantities of health nutrition diet to meet those needs. Suffice it to say it must be not too much, nor too little. Too much - over 23 % is risky, growth variances in the bone development; Too little, the nutritional goals for healthy living are damaged, either extreme, risking damage to the health of the Great Dane. The principals of nutrition are highly concerned with preventing age related problems. While nutrition is the front line in the area of healthy joints, it is also vital to digestive tract health, the engine of your Great Danes immune system. Home made foods vs. manufactured foods, and nutrients vs. ingedients, interesting stuff? You bet it is. Manufactured foods such as Royal Canin and Natural Choice Nutro provide the complete and balanced health nutrition in a one step solution - a bag, just pore it into the Great Danes raised dish 2 or 3 times a day guys, its easier than living on microwaved frozen dinners. Back to the science, its measured and its complete and its in one bag. Now maybe your a die hard weber barbecue fanatic like us cooking steaks in the winter on the barbecue, and if thats the case your Great Dane can in addition to a Great nutritional diet of dry food, enjoy chicken breast, T-bones, Rib eyes, and Sirloin Steak as a treat. You may want to feed hamburger with white rice and garlic and veggies that your Dane has tested positive on like carrots, can you believe it I have a dog that likes carrots, anyway the point is this makes "you" happy to cook for the Great Dane. So far as the nutrition goes your cooking will not have the precision of the science that goes into the bag of good, no top, QUALITY dog food.  Balance and nutrition remain the focus points, its easy to buy the technology in the bag and figure out what raw or cooked food works for your Great Dane, that is unless your a Harvard or MIT professor in raw and home cooked canine nutrition. For those of you non scientists interested in memberships we enroll our families puppies in PETFIRST a Royal Canin perk for Great Dane owners. It starts with a puppy pack.  Inside every new Puppy Starter Kit - the new puppy owner will find a PetFirst! invitation on the front cover of their Puppy Care Guide Booklet, featuring a unique user code to be entered to join Royal Canin's PetFirst! e-newsletter. These once a month e-newsletters offer new puppy owners informative puppy care, training and health tips. There are additional perks for Great Dane owners who take the time to consider Nutrition and have the vision and the forward thinking to feed healthy nutritional food. Pet Secure offers Great Dane owners a free companion membership in the CKC, a monthly club magazine, 6 weeks of insurance for health and accident for free, and if you stick with the insurance a discount on the annual premium only available through this membership.
